The Southern area of Lanzarote is slightly warmer and less windy than the rest of the island but, in my opinion, for the winter season is better to go in Gran Canaria in the South West countries.

Stay to Playa Blanca if:

- Are you looking for a relaxing holiday.
- Want to visit Fuerteventura.
- Looking for a place with tourist shops and restaurants.
- a good Beach where you can swim (Playa Dorata).
- Traveling with your family and children.

Arrecife

Like any capital, Arrecife town is NOT only for tourists but also to those who live and work there. 
Arrecife is pretty connected to the bus station with a comfortable walk along the ocean and a park. The Reducto beach is wide, perfect for sunbathing. 


Arrecife is suitable for those on a budget: the prices here are lower than in the South. It is a good starting point to visit the north of the island and visit the museums of the city. The bus station connects all the major cities of Lanzarote.

Caleta De Famara

The best place to sleep in Lanzarote for surfing is Famara. 

Famara beach is worth a visit. I liked it a lot because it is wide surrounded by mountains that make the place suggestive. The town bordering the beach is frequented mostly by surfers, the atmosphere is hippy and relaxing. There are a couple of restaurants, shops that rent and sell equipment to practice this sport and a surf school.

This is also not the classic tourist resort but a place on a human scale surrounded by nature where there are cheap apartments to stay. It is located in the north west of the island and I recommend staying here only if you love to kitesurfing or surfing.

La Graciosa

La Graciosa is an island visible from the Mirador del Rio that can be reached from Lanzarote. I suggest visiting La Graciosa for a night, just to completely immerse yourself in nature: a lunar environment with beaches not yet reached by mass tourism.
