LANZAROTE TOP ATTRACTIONS
Lanzarote is an island that I love very much for its Nature and inusual attractions. So this is my list of best things to see in Lanzarote:
Lanzarote, like the other Canaries, is an island that is totally focused on tourism, but it has not lost its cultural heritage, and has known how to promote environmental protection thanks also to César Manrique.
Go to Lanzarote if you love: lunar landscapes, deserts, white houses and vegetation.
If you like any type of marine sports activity, this is your place, but also if you are about beaches and relaxation. And it is that more than two million tourists visit Lanzarote every year , being the high season from December to February , when the weather in the rest of Europe is wintry, here they enjoy an eternal spring.
Puerto del Carmen
The largest tourist center on the island of Lanzarote, is a group of apartments, buildings, restaurants, bordering the sea and several beaches, for the enjoyment of the tourists. Here we have discos, pubs and lounge bars on Avenida de las Playas, where you can stay if you looking for nightlife.
It is worth visiting it at sunset, and ending up having dinner in one of its many restaurants.
Playa Grande
The largest beach in Puerto del Carmen is a stretch of golden sand of more than a kilometer full of umbrellas and sunbeds.
Very busy in high season.
Lanzarote best accommodations
Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is a Lanzarote town belonging to the municipality of Yaiza. It is oriented towards the neighboring island of Fuerteventura. It is the area of Lanzarote where the highest temperatures tend to occur. The favorable climatic conditions make Playa Blanca one of the main places to take holidays in the winter period, in Lanzarote.
Mirador del Rio
At the top of the Risco de Famara, very close to the northern tip of Lanzarote, we can enjoy the panoramic viewpoint created by César Manrique.
From this beautiful vantage point we can contemplate one of the most beautiful landscapes of Lanzarote, with a privileged view of the El Rio Strait and the Chinijo archipelago, with the nearby island of La Graciosa. To which we add the careful architecture of the viewpoint, and it is that only the building is well worth the visit of this place. It is one of the classic visits to see in Lanzarote.
Cueva de los Verdes
Attratcions in Lanzarote for those who love to deep in the heart of the earth (not suitable for claustrophobics.
One of the most incredible natural landscapes on the island and one of the essentials in our nature section to see in Lanzarote. This cave open to visitors, has its volcanic origin, when between 3000 and 5000 years ago, the La Corona volcano erupted.
The layer of lava formed a series of tunnels and caves of which a small part can be visited.
Haria
This rural house surrounded by a palm grove, was designed by César Manrique combining with great taste.
This traditional town located in a valley, houses the House Museum of the artist Cesar Manrique. For those who want to know more about the artist, they can visit what was his home until the last day of his life.
The museum introduces us to César Manrique through more than 1,500 objects , among which there are works of art, work tools, unfinished works...
Teguise
Teguise is one of the oldest towns on the island and is considered one of the most beautiful in the interior of Lanzarote. Founded in the early 13th century, its quiet, white streets convey peace if we visit it on a daily basis.
On Sunday mornings a market is held in Plaza Clavijo and Fajardo where you can find attractive craft stalls.
Castle of Santa Barbara (Teguise)
This 16th century fortress - museum, dominates the citizens of the nearby town of Teguise from the heights of the Guanapay Mountain.
Inside there is an ethnological museum that tells the story of the canaries who emigrated to the American continent centuries ago.
The views of the valley and Teguise are well worth a visit to this place.
Jameos del Agua
A cave that hides a cenote. Gorgeous!This is one of his masterpieces to see in Lanzarote, my prefer. In 1966 the artist decided to promote the volcanic landscapes of the island, and created a set that mixes the union of natural space with his great architectural taste. In it there is an underground garden, restaurants, a museum, an auditorium and a beautiful swimming pool.
Salinas de Janubio
Long ago when the salt industry was of great importance in the Canary Islands, the salt flats were another part of the landscape of the islands. Currently, the Salinas de Janubio are the last salt flat in the archipelago , and it offers us a landscape of colors and geometric shapes.
Los Hervideros
To the south of Timanfaya and near the road that goes to El Golfo from the Salinas de Janubio, Los Hervideros are located , a natural formation of volcanic inlets and vents , formed of petrified volcanic lava . If the sea is strong, the spectacle is greater.
Timanfaya National Park
It could be said that the most impressive natural visit to see in Lanzarote is that of the Timanfaya National Park.
This “ Martian ” landscape was formed between 1730 and 1736 with the volcanic eruptions that occurred on the island and that transformed the landscape from east to west . Today the volcanoes are inactive, but the soil in some areas emanates a lot of heat and therefore visits must be done guided.
Famara beach
A small town (Caleta de Famara) that lives by and for water sports. Shops and schools everywhere fill its streets along with bars.
Famara beach is said that it is the most beautiful beach in Lanzarote. And this is so for two reasons: because of the mountain in the background as if it were a beautiful theater curtain. And because of the sunlight, which makes one of the best times to visit it at sunset.
As a beach it is not one of the quietest to enjoy an afternoon with an umbrella and a towel, since the strong winds and the force of the sea make it more appropriate for water sports such as kitesurfing.
Costa Teguise
This tourist town designed in 1970 to house the tourism with the highest purchasing power, is the perfect place to take a walk around its Pueblo Marinero (designed by César Manrique) and enjoy the dozens of places to dine and have a drink.
Much less "crowded" and quieter than Playa del Carmen, the restaurants and streets of Costa Teguise have the charm of minimalist design and good taste for simplicity, but without losing the animation of the good leisure areas.
There are markets that are organized one day of the week. When we went in June it was Wednesday and there was a lot of atmosphere.
You can also enjoy Playa de las Cucharas, which although its waters are very calm, the wind blows a lot.
Costa Teguise is much quieter than nearby Puerto del Carmen, it also has a great selection of restaurants, bars and pubs.
Playa Blanca : If our budget is higher , we can visit the Puerto Deportivo Marina Rubicón . Exclusive bars and restaurants for those who want a more cachet nightlife.
Arrecife : it is the perfect place if what you want is to know the local tastes when going out. There are places for all ages and this animated by all kinds of musical styles .
Cactus Garden
Created by César Marique, it is a mixture of a Zen garden with a sculptural museum, all made with hundreds of species of cactus, both indigenous to the Canary Islands, as well as America and Africa.
We can also visit a restored traditional windmill inside.
Papagayo Beach
Perhaps the most famous of the Ajaches beaches is Playa Papagayo, a small cove surrounded by cliffs and with turquoise blue waters.
It has several services such as parking and a small restaurant.
To get to all these beaches that we have told you about, we will have to walk along sandy paths that start from the car parks, but they are well equipped.
Charco de los Clicos
Next to the town of El Golfo, the Charco de los Clicos is one of the images to see in Lanzarote.
This small green lagoon, separated from the Atlantic by a beautiful black beach, can be enjoyed from the viewpoint in the town of El Golfo.
El Golfo
To the west of the Timanfaya National Park is the small town of El Golfo.
It is a fishing village with many restaurants to enjoy the varieties of delicacies that the sea delights us with, and an ideal stop to eat if we come to see the Timanfaya National Park.
If we do it at sunset, we can also enjoy the sunset .smile
